About Capels Fish and Chip Restaurant and Takeaway
Our history, our staff and our high standards of food
Capels fish and chip restaurant is located in a Victorian structure built in 1899. The first owner was Lord Clinton of Clinton Devon Estates. It is known to have been a “fish cafe” since 1949 — possibly before — and was purchased by Emma Amelia Capel in 1956 for £4,000.
Today, Capels is the only fish and chip shop in Exmouth with its own restaurant and currently employs several full and part-time staff who work hard to produce high-quality food.
We have big plans for Capels Restaurant over the next year…
Capels is expanding and we seek friendly individuals to join our talented team on a full and part-time basis. Experience is preferred but full training will be provided. Please contact us by telephone or email for more information.
Capels awards and recognitions include:
the Seafish Fryers Quality Award
the East Devon District Council Seal of Excellence, and
a Certificate of Appreciation from Exmouth Town Management for its contribution to the town.
Capels only use the freshest fish from sustainable resources. We are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.
Capels has also received and a 5-star Food Hygiene rating from the UK Food Standards Agency.
